Happy New Year

As we enter 2009 don’t forget to look back and review your accomplishments for 2008.  What are you most proud of?  It doesn’t have to be fitness related.  While it’s it’s important to set and focus on future goals it’s equally important to look back.  Did you accomplilsh what you wanted to?  If not, why? What was your biggest struggle or stumbling block?  What did you learn from it?  How can you improve moving forward?

Happy New Year to all from the Bulldog Bootcamp family

Congratulations X-Country Challenge Runners!

It may have been a mere 5 degrees at the start of the Gilberts Cross Country Challenge, but several Bulldogs toughed out the cold weather, deep snow and treacherous terrain [at times] to run and finish the 4.9mi course out in Gilberts, IL on Sunday Dec 7.

This is what Bulldog Boot camp training prepares you for in the winter as well as all year round. If you can handle those conditions, than you handle just about anything your DI’s throw at you during camp. Please help me give credit where credit is due to those campers who came out and represented Bulldog at the Gilbert’s Cross Country Challenge.

Thank you Bulldogs and Congratulations to you all!!

Sgt Friday's Dec Tip of the Month

Sgt Friday’s Dec Tip of the Month

Make a Plan

Winter can be a hard time of the year to stay motivated (especially in Chicago). Therefore, it’s a great time to focus on staying strong with your attendance to Bulldog Boot camp even in the worst weather conditions. Making a plan and knowing you have a “scheduled appointment” (with a group or a friend) to workout helps make it easier to stay on track with your fitness routine and not fall into winter hibernation mode.

Other ways to stay motivated around Chicago along with staying dedicated to Bulldog Boot camp is; plan a fun race or challenge with a friend/s (or possibly just yourself), so that you have something to train toward and look forward to as well. When individuals or groups have a goal they set out to achieve, the training becomes much easier to tolerate when the weather outside isn’t always conducive.

Below are some fun and different races/challenges that you can sign up for, in and around the Chicago-land area…….so grab a friend, commit and train to stave off the winter blues.

Date            Time           Location               Event

12/7/08      8a             Chicago, IL           Jingle-Bell Run/Walk

12/7/08      10a           Gilberts, IL           Cross Country Challenge 8K

12/14/08    9a             Chicago, IL           Rudolph Ramble 8K

12/28/08    10a           Chicago, IL           Universal Sole Resolution Run

1/1/09        11a           Chicago, IL            New Years Day Run/Walk 5K

1/25/09      TBA           Chicago, IL            Step Up For Kids Stair Climb

3/8/09        TBA           Chicago, IL            Presidential Towers Stair Climb

Enjoy your winter training, and don’t let it keep you inside!

OLD MAN WINTER!!!

Bulldogs……..The seasons have changed (not necessarily for the better) and “old man winter” is almost here rearing his ugly head. As the cold weather changes ever so drastically from day to night and into the over night, it’s always good to have a leg up on what’s going on outside.

There are two ways in which to find out this information: 1. either look at the bulldog website directly for the “weather bug temp gage” and it will give the temp outside in the city all day long. 2. you can check the radio station AM 780 for a weather report on the “eights” 24hrs a day(i.e. 6:08, 6:18, 6:28 etc…). That weather report comes directly from the lakefront. These will be your two most accurate ways of deciding how to dress for the weather when coming to camp or if camp has been cancelled do to inclement weather conditions.

Bulldog boot camp meets rain, snow, sleet, hail or sunshine. HOWEVER……in the winter when the weather drops to 10 degrees or below, camp will automatically be cancelled. The weather can change from minute to minute in the winter, so please be aware of the conditions when you are planning your dress arrangements for camp.

Thanx,

Sgt Friday

CONGRATULATIONS MARK M. (6A LP)

Bulldogs……. Please help me in giving a very long over due but extremely deserved congratulations shout out to Mark Masseur in completing the 100 day burpee challenge on Nov 4. Mark is the only Bulldog (that I’m currently aware of) that signed up and completed all 100 (consecutive) days of doing burpees.

His legs may have “paid” for it throughout the challenge, but he never wavered off the path from day one.

Mark, we all hope your legs have recovered or are recovering and know we’re very proud of you for finishing an extremely tough challenge.

Great Job!

Sincerely,

Sgt Friday & The Major

HUSTLE UP THE HANCOCK CLOSED!

Hi fellow Bulldogs. Just a quick note to let you know that the “Hustle Up the Hancock” is closed. It usually closes out the same day that it opens making it extremely hard to get in and signed up. If there’s any of you who were able to get a spot, good for you. For those of you who were considering doing the climb,  my apologies to you!

However, Bulldogs, we do have plenty of other events around Chicago that aren’t closed. Starting with the Turkey Trot (next week), Gilbert’s Cross Country Challenge (Dec 7th) as well as the Step Up for Kids climb at the AON Center (in January). If you need a little challenge in your workout, we’d love to see you try out one or all of these fun events. It’s so much fun when there is a group of Bulldogs together cheering each other on and working hard to complete the challenge.

You will find all of these events posted on our website as well as searching the actual event itself. Let me know if there is further questions I can answer for you concerning any or all these events! No Excuses Bulldogs…………

PARKING CHANGES!

ATTENTION BULLDOGS( 5a. 6a & 6:30p)

As the seasons change so does our parking destination. The new parking & meeting area for the winter months (Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb & most of March) will now be at the Diversey Harbor boat dock parking lot, just north of the water trough.

Parking on the street can get a little “dicey” & dangerous once the snow & ice arrive in the winter.  For your safety as well as ours we will now be meeting there until the spring. The parking lot is open and free for the winter months only, so if you drive please feel free to park in that lot during camp hours.

If you have any questions concerning the parking changes please feel free to email Sgt Friday and I’d be happy to answer them as quickly as possible.

Thanx!

Sgt Friday

Thanksgiving Workout

Hello Bulldogs-

That wonderful and delicious Thanksgiving holiday is getting closer and closer with each day! As you start to think about all the wonderful foods you’ll be eating, it’s also important to think about how you’re going to work it all off.

If you’re one of the lucky ones who doesn’t have to work the day after Thanksgiving than Bulldog boot camp has exactly what you need! We encourage you to come join us for the special holiday workout in Lincoln Park @ 8a Friday morning. This workout is open to ALL  Bulldog boot-campers (GP 6a, LP 5a, 6a & 6:30p as well as family and friends that you would like to bring along). We will be meeting by the water trough(@ Diversey Harbor) on Cannon Dr 1/3 mile north of Fullerton on the east side of the street.

It’s extremely important to enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday feast, but not to over indulge so much so that you throw your normal routine off it’s axis. Enjoy everything in moderation and make a plan to get back on track with your workout on Friday morning.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Sincerely,

Sgt Friday & The Major

PS- Please note that this will be the ONLY WORKOUT on Friday!

Grant Park Bulldogs

It was great being able work with the Grant Park group this week while Patrick was.  I love the intensity you all brought to the workouts.  Neil, you really killed me on the stairs Monday.  Great job.  On Monday we did the stairs at Wacker and Columbus.  I’d say it’s equivlant to 8 floors?  We did 20 minutes straight following a pattern where the first time up you hit every stair, next time skip a stair, third time up skip two stairs, then repeat for 20 minutes.  It was great workout for those of us getting ready for the Go Vertical stair climp to the top of the Sears Tower this coming Sunday.  It was killer on the legs so of course on Tuesday we’d go easy on the legs right?  WRONG!  First we worked on learning the one legged squat or Pistols.  The idea is to hold one leg out in front of you, no knee bend if possible, then squat using just the standing leg.  It requires strength, but also stability and balance.  Then the workout:

For time:

100 pushups

100 bench jumps

100 sit-ups

100 squats

Must complete all reps before continuing to next exercise.

Results:

Marrissa 17.42
Neil 14.5
Angie 16.37
Megan 16.30
KS 16.52
Duckeye 21.21
Dean 16.52
Tanya 17.39
Mary 17.02
Joe 20.22
Jessica 16.23
Greg 13.28
